"Our history"

Charlotte and Georg Kretschmer had been running a restaurant in Breslau since 1940.

In 1945 they moved to Hamelin, where they founded the family business“ ZumSchultheiss” on 24 May 1952.

Situated near to a recreational forest area perfect for delightful walks opposite the Gordon Barracks and a 5-minute walk from the centre of town, a cosy restaurant with a beautiful green beer garden was established.

Particularly in the early days, our English guests ensured that business was booming. In 1976 Marlies and Wolfgang Kretschmer took over the restaurant.

The founding of the hotel in 1980 was another important milestone. To this day, the Kretschmer family and the Schultheiss still stand for family tradition, dedication, love of the job and always something new.
